Literasi: Our Hero Agus Salim
Hi all! welcome back to my blog :) I will tell you a little about one of the heroes who have come from Indonesia! Who is he? Agus Salim!! maybe many don't know him, so let's find out who he is :)
Agus Salim was born with the name Mashudul Haq, which means "defender of truth". He was born in Kota Gadang, Agam West Sumatra, Dutch East Indies on October 8, 1884. He was the fourth child of Sultan Muhammad Salim and Siti Zainab, his father was a chief prosecutor in the Riau High Court.
Agus Salim mastered 7 foreign languages. He left for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 1906 working as a translator at the Dutch consulate. Coming home from Jeddah he founded HIS (Holland Indlandsche School).
He entered journalism in 1915 in Neratja Daily as editor II. Finally he was appointed editor in chief. In the same year he joined the Sarekat Islam (SI) and became the second leader after H. O.S Tjokroaminoto.
He was involved and became a member of PPKI preparing for Indonesian independence. After Indonesia's independence he became a member of the Supreme Advisory Council. He was also appointed a foreign minister of foreign affairs to the Sutan Syahrir (I and II) cabinet and to the Hatta cabinet. He was nicknamed "The Grand Old Man" because he was very good at diplomacy.
Even though he is a respected and very intelligent figure, he is a simple person, has no permanent home. He always moved the city and rented a simple little house.

27 days after his 70th birthday, he died on November 4, 1954 and then buried in TMP Kalibata. Because of his persistent struggle he was awarded as an Indonesian national hero in Presidential Decree number 657 dated December 27, 1961. REST IN PEACE.
